Welcome to Kabayama Bushidokan
About Makoto
Makoto Kabayama, is a 24th generation samurai descendant and founder of the esteemed JKD Family, a group of Canadian Jeet Kune Do Concepts Instructors. He first introduced Jeet Kune Do to Canada over 20 years ago as one of Paul Vunak’s premier students in the 1980’s and only one of a dozen that rose to Senior Certified Instructor.
A lifetime of study has led to a distillation of traditional disciplines resulting in his JKD Concepts – a unified, singularly efficient and extremely functional system of self-defense. This legacy has found its home in Toronto in the form of Kabayama Bushidokan, with its rich tradition being carried on by Makoto Kabayama and his team of instructors.
About the Art
JKD Concepts prides itself on its purely functional and organic approach to self-defense.
First founded by Bruce Lee in 1967, it emphasizes the development of superior fighting attributes by blending techniques from a myriad of different fighting arts and applying them as needed in a given situation. Training focuses on theories such as range of combat, the concepts of interception, forms of attack and centre line. This superior blend of technique and theory leads to a graceful and seamless flow able to deal with the changing dynamics of a confrontation.
